It was noted that there is a difference definition between a guild and a profession. The former one is organized for self-service, the latter is systematized to maximize benefit to society.
I desire to engage in a series of steps to ensure that I can assist my generation of health-care activists reflect the highest standards of professionalism, both collectively and individually. My well-grounded assertion is the public trust, which is composed of the respect of patient care, patient welfare and promotion of social justice, that are fostered in the elements of altruism, quality ad management of conflicts of interest and boundaries, respectively.
Whenever there is politically involved with profit with respect to the management of interest, the conflict of interest inherent in gifts from companies which is attempting to influence medical practice is unmistaketable. The greatest threat to this professionalism comes from the failure to address the principle of social justice. That is, the most severe threat in US to health care is the growing chasm between rich and poor both in the world.
Therefore, I would like to invent a novel term, called new professionalism of physician worthy of the public trust. I desire to be remembered as one of the health activists when the nation’s medical advocate committed to lives of service, being worthy of profess we enter the trust placed in us.
By having a chance to work every day on issues that matter more than my individualism and be surrounded by passionate, bright, idealistic people is a pleasure and an honor.
