最早的來源是一首英文詩。
據說是在1932年，
一名美國女子為了同居友人的母親過世而寫的作品。
詩本身並無名字，
一般人就以其第一句「Do not stand at my grave and weep」來命名。
得到過日本文學高度評價「芥川賞」的知名作家「新井滿」，
因為友人之死而將美國詩詞「Do not stand at my greave and weep」（原作作者不知），
這首廣為在美國社會舉辦哀悼會上用以朗讀，表達哀戚之意的著名詩詞，透過新井滿的譯詞與譜曲，
以及男高音「秋川雅史」的演唱，撫慰了許多人的內心與靈魂，這首歌曲的本意是表達對死者的思念，
及生者應堅強地繼續走著人生的道路，生者與死者間共生的聯繫，透過千年之風的傳遞而永不切斷。
