篇名: 秀杉雅棠 的 演講搞
作者: 夙夜【秀杉】 日期: 2007.09.15 天氣: 心情:

I was once in Queensland to study and improve my English level. Ever since then I’ve always wanted to go back there, not just due to the purpose of study and have some fun, but at the same time to refresh my memories of the time I had over there.  Queensland is a great city with great people, and once you got there you will fall deeply in love with the land itself and the culture of the place. In the next few minutes I am going to talk about where is Queensland, what are the similarities and differences between Taipei and Queensland, and last but not least what I miss about Queensland.

Queensland is a state of Australia, occupying the north-eastern corner of the mainland continent. It is neighbored by the Northern Territory to the west, South Australia to the south-west and New South Wales to the south. To the east, Queensland is bordered by the Coral Sea and Pacific Ocean. The state is Australia's second largest by area, following Western Australia, and the country's third most populous after New South Wales and Victoria.

Now I’ve told you where Queensland is, let us talk about what are the similarities between here and there.

Queensland is a big state; the population is concentrated in the south-east corner, which includes the capital Brisbane, where I lived. Brisbane is just like our capital city Taipei, with tall buildings all over, but with a lot less people. Although there are traffics sometimes but compare to here it is a lot better. People in Queensland are usually white because their ancestor are mostly from Europe especially England. Unlike Taipei, people in Brisbane don’t usually ride a scooter or motorcycle; they either drive in a car or walk.

Surely there are a lot of differences between Taipei and Queensland, I would like to share every single one of them but it will take up too much time. The last topic I am going to talk about is more personal, which is what I miss about Queensland.

Number one on the list the “Shopping Center”, like all girls I love to shop that is why the Shopping Center is my favorite spot of the town. The Shopping Center is so huge, it is impossible to go through the entire area in one day. Plus the store inside the Shopping Center are not that expensive too, compare to here… maybe they are still a bit more expensive.  Sea World and Movie World that is something that Taiwan doesn’t have the space to fit in, like its name Sea World is about creatures that lived in the sea and Movie world is about those Hollywood films that were shot over there.

Although places are important but what made me want to go back are not just those fancy places, what I miss the most are the teachers who had taught me so much about the language and culture of Queensland.

John Paul College the place I studied had two teachers that reminded the most about the life I had over there. The first one would be my graphics teacher, because of his curly hair like African American people in the 70s. It made him looks so much like a microphone; I asked him why he said it is because of his gene. The second would be my technology teacher, not because of other reason he was just too funny to forget, although it’s really hard to understand his joke sometime.

Now I’ve talked about where is Queensland, how is it different from here, and why I missed that place so much. I hope that you guys have learned more about that place through my speech. I am planning on going back this summer, not just to study but to have some fun and refresh my memories. Queensland is a great place with great people, and I am sure you guys will love it if you have the same experience that I had.
