I remember a friend lives in Tainan and his height is more than 190 cm

told me that he had attended at the Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival .

It s an important religious event in Tainan every year on January 15th of the lunar year .

It crowds of thrill-seekers stand in a cloud of thousands of whizzing bottle rockets .

Jus like gunshots or burst in brilliant flashes overhead .

Yanshui was suffering from a cholera outbreak during the 19th century,

and the residents prayed to Guangong for protection .

As a palanquin bearing the image of the God toured the town,

people let off fireworks to drive away the demons causing the plague .

The event is called the Beehive Fireworks Festival because the large structures

that house the fireworks resemble large beehives .

The explosives are aimed at the spectators rather than the night sky .

Protective clothing is essential,

from motorbike helmets, visors, earplugs, and put towels around their necks .

Injuries are not uncommon, so if you attend it this year, be well-prepared and stay safe .
