主啊！求你塑造我的兒子， "Build me a son, O Lord,

使他夠堅強到能認識自己的軟弱；who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,

夠勇敢到能面對懼怕；and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid;

在誠實的失敗中，毫不氣餒；one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,

在勝利中，仍保持謙遜溫和。and humble and gentle in victory.

　
　

　

懇求塑造我的兒子，Build me a son

不至空有幻想而缺乏行動；whose wishes will not take the place of deeds;

引導他認識你，同時又知道，a son who will know Thee…… and that

認識自己乃是真知識的基石。to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge

　
我祈禱，Lead him, I pray,

願你引導他不求安逸、舒適，not in the path of ease and comfort

相反的，經過壓力、艱難和挑戰，but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge

學習在風暴中挺身站立，Here, let him learn to stand up in the storm;

學會憐恤那些在重壓之下失敗的人。here let him learn compassion for those that fail.

心地清潔，whose heart will be clear,

目標遠大；whose goal will be high,

使他在指揮別人之前，a son who will master himself

先懂得駕馭自己；before he seeks to master other men;
