為了援助非洲飢荒難民，當時英國歌壇的大牌歌手如文化俱樂部、杜蘭杜蘭合唱團、保羅揚、菲爾柯林斯等幾乎全員到齊，由於歌曲的性質及首次創舉，單曲發行後自然是轟動全球，並且啟發了世界各地的音樂工作者，各類的慈善義唱風氣至今依然不息。
