出自卡朋特1970年的專輯《Close To You》，《滾石》雜誌評出的史上500張最佳專輯之一。
那首歌的名字還有個完整寫法叫(They Long To Be) Close To You
其實卡朋特不是最早唱這首歌的人，但是是他們把這首歌唱紅了~這首是卡朋特的金曲之一，所以近年來所有他們的精選基本上都會收錄這首歌。
《Close to You》創作背景：
1969年卡朋特兄妹正式以「Carpenters」為名推出了他們的首張專輯《Offering》，其中一首Beatles的老歌「Ticketto Ride」在經過他們的翻唱之後大受歡迎，也因此打開了他們的知名度，各地的電台也紛紛播出了這個全新版本的Ticket toRide。作曲大師巴特•巴拉克（BurtBacharach），也通過電台廣播認識了這兩位新人，非常欣賞他們的獨特演繹，他找到了唱片公司的另一位老闆傑瑞•莫斯（JerryMoss）要求想辦法安排「Carpenters」為他在一家醫院的慈善義演中獻聲暖場，還希望理查德能大膽改編一些他自己創作的樂曲做成一首聯奏。
老闆阿爾伯特找到了理查德，建議他可以試試巴拉克發表於63年的一首「They Long To Be Close ToYou」。1970年6月，「Carpenters」的第二張專輯「Close To You」上市發行，沒過幾個星期主打單曲「Close ToYou」就登上了排行榜的冠軍寶座，還蟬聯了四個星期。鑑於在這張專輯中的突出表現，卡朋特兄妹獲得了該年度格萊美「最佳新人」和「最佳流行合唱團體」兩項大獎。
the Carpenters並不是這首歌的原唱，Dionne Warwick和DustySpringfield都演唱過這首歌，但始終沒有走紅。Richard舒緩的改編突出了溫暖的小號獨奏和柔潤的加利福尼亞式和聲的渲染。原作者BurtBacharach說：「我認為理查德真正抓住了這首歌的精華。」
